MUD is a Northside tool library and has been since 1981, which means it is older than a lot of the people who walk in. Missoula Urban Demonstration: tools, a demonstration site, skill-sharing, and, on the map, a four-ounce jar of honey from hives on the property. Most visitors who claim the drop are first-timers. That is the interesting part.

Weekend afternoons are the window. You show up, you ask at the desk, you leave with honey that did not come from a grocery shelf. The rest of the site is a reminder that a town can lend you a saw. I like that the reward is small and specific. It is not a coupon. It is a jar.

I send people here when they think the map is only downtown food. It is not. It is also a Northside nonprofit that has been teaching this town how to reuse things for forty-odd years, and the honey is the excuse to walk through the gate. If you have never been, you will not be the only first-timer. That is the usual crowd.
